The contract between the Kosovo Railways Infrastructure INFRAKOS J.S.C. and the economic operator GCF is signed for the second phase of the railway line 10 Fushë Kosovë – Mitrovicë

On the 08th of December 2021, in Fushë Kosovë, at the premises of Kosovo Railways Infrastructure, the contract between Acting CEO of INFRAKOS J.S.C. Mr Zymer Zekaj and the Italian economic operator’s representative (President) G.C.F. Mr Edoardo Rossi, has been signed.

In this ceremonial act of signing participated the Italian Ambassador to Kosovo, Government representatives, Infrakos management and representatives of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The Project is funded by the Government of Kosovo through the loans from the Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD, The European Bank for Investments (EIB) with 50% of means and 50% grant by the European Commission through the Western Balkans Investments Framework (WBIF).

The amount of the contract for this project is around 48 million euro and the duration of works for this phase is 15 months.

The Kosovo Railways Infrastructure, Infrakos J.S.C. as the beneficiary to this project, aims to rehabilitate and advance the segment of railway line 10 Fushë Kosovë – Mitrovicë, in compliance with the requirements of Technical Standards of Interoperability and European Standards to enhance the safety of railway traffic, conditions for passengers, train running speed, number of trains per day, and to support local and regional economy.

Mr Zekaj, Acting CEO of Infrakos said that this moment marks the continuation for realization of railway line 10 rehabilitation, which paves the way also for the third phase from Mitrovica to Leshak, and we hope together with the contractor that our objective will be realized as soon as possible in terms of time and quality as required by European standards, in order to get closer to Europe as soon as possible. Mr Zekaj also thanked the international financial institutions for their support to this project 50% grant, the Government of Republic of Kosovo for the other part of a soft loan.

On behalf of the Government of Republic of Kosovo, the Deputy Minister of Spatial Planning and Infrastructure Mr Hysen Durmishi also had an occasion address, who vowed that the Government of Kosovo has made commitments to support the rehabilitation of existing lines and the possibility of opening the new railway corridors of the connection of Kosovo with Albania through Prishtinë – Durrës. Further, Mr Durmishi congratulated the signing of contract for railway phase two.

Mr Rossi, the CEO of G.C.F, said that they are happy to continue their cooperation in the second phase as well, and that from here they vow to meet all their obligations in timely manner and with quality according to European standards.

The ceremonial act of this major project signing was also greeted by the Italian ambassador and the representatives of EBRD, EIB and WBIF.
